Happy Summer Time Pumpkin Wednesday

Hello Everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful day and enjoyed the nice hot hot temperatures that are present across the country!

It's finally summer, and I am finally done traveling (Tim and I have been somewhere every weekend since the middle of April!).  It was so wonderful to see family and friends, but I am excited for the time to be at home on the weekends relaxing with Pumpkin and playing outside!

Probably one of the toughest things about the summer is keeping your apartment/house cool without causing your energy bills to go through the roof.

Pumpkin, being the cool cat that she is, knows a few ways to keep your house cool, save energy and keep some green in your pocket....

I am wearing sunglasses which automatically makes me cool

Close your blinds and shades on windows facing the sun.  If you have the chance and the extra funds, install white or light colored shades or blinds to reflect the sun out of the house rather than trapping it inside.

I'll help you close the blinds so that I can play in them while you are gone

Turn your fans on!  Even air movement of only 1 mph can make you feel 3-4 degrees cooler.  Also, using a fan in conjunction with your air conditioner helps to move that icy cold air around the room.

Kitties also benefit from sitting directly in front of the fan.
An important note for all you ceiling fan users:  Make sure the fan is spinning in the correct direction.  The air should be blowing down in the summer (up in the winter).

Keep lamps and other appliances away from your air conditioner.  These appliances give off heat which in turn makes the temperature near your air conditioner higher, making your AC unit work too hard!

Where's Pumpkin?  Hiding in the electronic devices...

It is summer after all so turn off your TV and get outside!  Not only will you probably engaging in healthier activity away from the couch, but turning off your TV will cause less heat in your room.

Besides these energy saving tricks I recommend eating popsicles, swimming, drinking lots of water and investing in a variety of shorts and tank tops!  How do you stay cool during the summer?

Happy Pumpkin Wednesday!
